13 years ago, I walked on Ball State’s campus as a Freshman, eager to begin exploring the majors and industries that excited me. 9 years ago, I left BSU and entered the growing ranks of alumni, armed with knowledge and experiences to help me enter the workforce. I returned to campus countless times for a variety of reasons: seeing and celebrating my sister’s achievements and graduations; visiting mentors and friends; speaking in classes as a mentor and alumni industry expert. And as of January 2026, I’ll be returning again, but this time, in an Adjunct role as an Instructor in the Department of Media!

It’s an odd sensation to be returning and teaching one of the courses I took when I started on my professional path over a decade ago, but I’m approaching it with a mix of healthy nerves and optimistic anticipation. I’m grateful to Suzy Smith for offering me this opportunity, and to the many mentors, friends, and colleagues who vouched for me in this process. I eagerly look forward to helping educate the next generation of media professionals and to giving back to a department that gave so much to me and helped me start making a living in an industry I love. Fierce Little Bird isn’t going anywhere; I’ll still be taking on client projects around my teaching obligations. One year and 4 days ago, I took a huge chance and asked you out, and you said yes! Managed to slip away earlier this week for a mini-early-anniversary getaway to Nashville. It rained all the way down, but we lucked out with the weather while there. From the gorgeous @cheekwood estate and gardens, to a fabulous dinner at @onceuponatimeinfrance , to a laughter-filled morning at the @nashvillezoo , it was a perfect mini-escape to celebrate being with @annah2636 for an entire year (well, early - today actually marks 1 year since we met!). I love you so much, Anna, and no matter whether we’re adventuring abroad or at home, I’m always happiest with you by my side and being by yours. Stressful, but fun, and considering I was averaging maybe 2/3 of a climb per-wall, I’m proud of myself for topping out on my last climb. Definitely looking forward to the next time! I had the pleasure tonight of heading up to West Lafayette and @lifeatpurdue to take part in the @uwlafayette 2025 Campaign Kickoff. When @town.and.gown reached out and asked if Fierce Little Bird could help with a video for the campaign, the only answer was, “Of course!” I’m grateful for amazing friends and colleagues @michaelabel289 and @prxperstandards who volunteered their time to make the project a success that was only possible thanks to their time and dedication. The videos will go live in the near future, but getting to see them run all over the Shively Club and, in particular, the big screen in Ross-Ade Stadium, was an amazing launch. Absolutely over the moon! At today’s screening for the Indianapolis 48 Hour Film Festival, our team took home FIRST PLACE! This means @kineticartscollective will be Indy’s rep at Filmapalooza in Lisbon in March, and if we place Top 10 there, we get screened at Cannes. Everyone worked so hard, and I’m so excited that the work was recognized. In addition to First Place, we also took home Best Sound Design, thanks to the always-incredible work of @weeziewolf , and I’m so honored to have been recognized with Best Actor. Day 9: Marseille

Our last day in France. We took our coffee and pastry breakfast in the train station while waiting for our ride to Marseille, the oldest city in France and famous for several things (both good and bad...who knows their WWII history?). The travel time meant we didn't get a chance to explore the greater city, but after a quick bite, we took advantage of our City Passes to hop a ferry over to Le Frioul, one of the calanques that are included in @parcnationaldescalanques . It was a windy day with choppy waters (which is why we didn't visit the inspiration for the prison island from THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO, Chateau d'If), but the overall weather was gorgeous. Once we made port, we fit in a hike to the top of the island, where we were able to explore a former fort and take in the fantastic views of the surrounding waters. We then made our way back down and to the port to travel back over to the mainland, where we had one last dinner, got in a little bit of shopping, and then hopped the train back to Mougins to pack for our flights back to the States.

We were up early to hop a train that took us to this beautiful city that sits just 10 miles west of the Italian border. We started with a visit to @maisongannac for a self-guided tour of their citrus orchard, complete with tastings of their house-made products. It was a serene way to start the day, away from the main city center. Once we finished there, we made our way back to the center of town to grab some lunch (and more gelato) and explore the amazing citrus art installations. We took some time to visit a beautiful orchid exhibition. Afterwards, we took a quick stroll along the coast, dipped our hands in the Mediterranean, and then made our way to our last stop of the night: a ravioli workshop with @pastapiemonte , where we learned not only how to make pasta, but how to make the signature ravioli of Menton. After enjoying a sampling of our work, we packed up and headed back to the hotel (where we cooked and enjoyed the leftovers from our workshop).

We made our way back to our hotel, where we enjoyed a quiet evening with some take out and Netflix.

After our slow day, we hopped on a train for a day trip to Monaco. We took in the view of the marina with the castle on the opposite side of the bay. We made our way to Princess Grace Japanese Gardens, which even in late Winter/early Spring, were stunning. We eventually made our way back down to the marina, grabbed some food, and wrapped up our visit with some gelato! We made our way back to our hotel, where we enjoyed a quiet evening with some take out and Netflix.

Day 5: Mougins & Cannes

After running around non-stop for the previous 4 days, we took a "slower" day around Mougins and nearby Cannes. We took a nice, slow morning in Mougins with coffee and pastries, after which we explored the local farmers' market (and bought some AMAZING meat and cheeses). We then made our way to Cannes, where we just managed to visit another major farmers' market. We strolled around the city, enjoying the scenic views, the marina, a visit to the site of the Cannes Film Festival, and enjoying wine and crêpes next to a public pétanque pitch. Overall, a wonderful and relaxing day to recover before the remainder of our packed trip!

Day 5: Mougins & Cannes

I know today is the day when we all try and sum up our past year. I’ve been trying to find the best way to do that for myself, and I think I finally came to a conclusion: 2024 was a cup of coffee.

It started off bitter - family health issues, a back surgery, and very little work. Add in the stress of home buying, and it was a rough start (kind of my own fault with that - call it taking a sip while the coffee is too hot). But it slowly got better, with close friends showing how much they care, family coming together in both times of need and in times of celebration, and settling in to the new house. Work picked up with new clients and exciting opportunities. I went to concerts headlined by two of my favorite artists. Things were looking up.

Then came the crazy period as the caffeine kicked in: producing a film, seeing my sister get married, officiating the marriage of dear friends, travel jobs, juggling multiple deadlines, and preparing for the holidays.

Finally, the ultimate buzz: out of the blue - after years of trudging through the muck of dating apps - finding the person that sets my soul on fire while simultaneously bringing me so much joy and peace. Spending time with the people that mean the most to me.

And now, it’s the post-coffee times of settling down, reveling in the journey, and preparing for what’s to come. For many of us, it may be another cup (or 4 😬) of coffee. But maybe that’s what life is: bitter moments that lead to the ultimate highs, allowing us to reflect on our journies, learn from both our failures and our successes, and look forward to new days ahead. So, yeah: 2024 was a cup of coffee. And you know what? I think I’m ready for another cup. Happy New Year, everyone. Here’s to filling our cups in 2025.

Still need to paint the interior, but that’s less urgent. As always, many thanks to my dad @kallen2818 for all the help in getting this accomplished. Another renovation off the To-Do List!
